A life lived outside.

Voyages with an objective and a story — sailing, wild food, fieldcraft, history, people, and the skills involved in getting there. Next: the Southern Ocean and Cape Horn.

Based on Canada's Pacific coast. Going farther afield.

Cape Horn aboard EUROPA.

Auckland, New Zealand → Cape Horn → Ushuaia, Argentina

This fall I’ll join the voyage crew of the historic three-masted barque EUROPA for a 52-day, 5,800-nautical-mile passage through the Southern Ocean, rounding Cape Horn under sail.

I’ll stand watches, take the helm, handle sail and live aboard through the Roaring Forties and Furious Fifties — while documenting the preparation, people, seamanship, weather, history and experience for John Fraser’s Wild Life.

Come aboard.

The channel follows journeys with an objective and a story: voyages aboard W. Grebe, wild food, fishing, destinations, history, people, fieldcraft — and now the preparation for a 52-day Southern Ocean passage around Cape Horn.

The camera stays close to what the day actually feels like — sail handling, weather, meals underway, quiet anchorages, things breaking, things working, and the field knowledge that makes a place more interesting once you know what to notice.

⛵
Life aboard W. Grebe

A classic wooden boat, coastal passages, anchorages, weather, maintenance, and the ordinary work behind getting somewhere under sail.

🎣
Fishing

Fly fishing with the context left in — water, insects, landscape, and why a fish is where it is.

🌿
Wild food

Gathering, fishing, hunting, and cooking food from the places it actually comes from.

🧭
The rest of the wild life

Expeditions, old roads, overlooked places, fieldcraft, history, travel, and the people encountered along the way.

About John Fraser's Wild Life

A real life, worth following.

I live aboard W. Grebe, a classic wooden gaff-rigged sailboat, on Canada's Pacific coast. The channel follows the life around that boat — and the fishing, wild food, fieldcraft, people and places that keep pulling me farther afield.

Pay attention. Tides, weather, tracks, shell fragments, insects, wind, structure, season, habitat — the details that tell you what a place is doing.
Know how to do things. Cast better. Read water. Handle a sail. Harvest carefully. Fix what breaks. Cook what the place gives you.
Bring people along. No manufactured heroics and no creator theatrics. Just a life actually being lived, with enough context to make you want to come along.

Work with John

Partnerships that belong in the story.

The audience is here for the life itself. Brand work has to fit naturally into that life — on the boat, in the field, on the road, or on expedition — and still feel like the channel.

FAQ

The short version.

What is John Fraser's Wild Life?

It is the umbrella for the YouTube channel and the rest of the work: sailing aboard W. Grebe, wild food, fishing, fieldcraft, travel and larger expeditions — including the 2026 Southern Ocean passage around Cape Horn aboard EUROPA.

Do you work with brands?

Yes, selectively. The strongest fit is with outdoor, marine, travel, food, heritage, field gear, and experience-driven brands that can be used naturally in the work rather than inserted into it.

What is Food Afield?

Food Afield is the wild-food and field-knowledge side of John Fraser's Wild Life: gathering, fishing, hunting, cooking, and learning to read the landscape well enough to know what is there.

Where can I follow the stories?

YouTube is the main place to follow the full stories. Instagram carries shorter pieces from the same life, and the Field Notes are for new work, trip notes, and occasional updates that are worth sending directly.
